"Educators demonstrate a broad knowledge base and an understanding in areas they teach."
Evidence
As an educator it is crucial to have not only knowledge, but also a deep understanding of a variety of different subject areas. If I am teaching a subject that I am not completely familiar with, I will spend as much time as I can to learn everything that I can about the subject before I introduce it to my students. I have become familiar with the BC curriculum over the course of the past few years and I feel confident in taking ideas from the curriculum and teaching them to my students in the way that is most effective for their learning. As a science lesson, I had my students conduct the scientific method and an experiment. For this lesson, I began by explaining and modelling the scientific method, then students wrote it out on their own. Then next day we actually conducted the experiment after I modelled it. After that as a class we brainstormed why we think the results were the way that they were, then I explained the science behind it with visuals. Then after I modelled it, students drew their observations and wrote out their conclusions. This clearly demonstrates that I have a broad knowledge and understanding of the scientific method, that I understand the curriculum, and that I engage students by providing a variety of pedagogical approaches.
